City of Ruthton

Ruthton is a small community with a population of 226 (2020 census) in southwest Minnesota located in sections 10 and 11 of Aetna Township of Pipestone County along State Highway 23, (17 miles northeast of Pipestone, MN, and 26 miles southwest of Marshall, MN).  Ruthton was platted in June 1888 and incorporated on November 2, 1897, was established by the Willmar & Sioux Falls Railroad (now known as BNSF Railway) and named in honor of W.H. Sherman, one of the townsite proprietors.  Ruthton’s post office began in 1888.
