The City of Ruthton is a Mail Ballot Precinct. Ballots are mailed to registered voters approximately 30 days before each election. You may mail your ballot back or drop it off at your polling place which is the Pipestone County Courthouse located at 416 S. Hiawatha Avenue in Pipestone. If you wish to put the ballot into the ballot counter yourself, you may do so only 7 days prior to the election. (The Tuesday thru Monday before the election) at the Pipestone County Auditor’s Office.
The elected officials for the City of Ruthton are as follows with office terms:
Mayor – Two-year terms
4 Council Member – Four-year terms
Individuals who are eligible and desire to become a candidate must file an Affidavit of Candidacy during the filing period as set by the State of Minnesota during normal business hours at the City Office located at 501 Smith Avenue. The filing fee is $2.00.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR FILING FOR A COUNCIL POSITION

- Is an eligible voter within the City of Ruthton.
- Has no other affidavit on file as a candidate for any office at the same election.
- Is, or will be upon assuming office, 21 years of age or more, and will have maintained residence within the city limits of Ruthton for 30 days before the election.
- May not be a full-time, permanent employee of the city.
VOTER REGISTRATION

Registration (new or change in address or name) can take place prior to Election Day (Pre-Registration ends 21 days before the election) by:
Registering Online – It’s quick and easy! You will need your Minnesota driver’s license or Minnesota identification card number, or the last four numbers of your Social Security number.
Registering on paper – Download and print forms in English and other languages. Complete and mail to the Pipestone County Auditor-Treasurer at 416 S. Hiawatha Ave., Pipestone, MN 56164 or leaving it off at their office in the County Courthouse in Pipestone.
You can also register at the Pipestone County Auditor’s Office or call their office at (507) 825-1140 to request an application to be sent to you.
If you are not registered to vote or need to update your registration information, you may do so at the polling place on Election Day. You will be required to provide proof of residency, when registering on Election Day.

IDENTIFICATION
To register on Election Day, you must have one of the following with your current name and address in the precinct to verify your residency:

- A valid Minnesota driver’s license, learner’s permit, Minnesota ID card, or receipt for any of these.
- A valid student ID card including your photo, of your college has provided a student housing list to election officials.
- A Tribal ID card that contains your picture and signature.
- A valid registration in the same precinct under a different name or address.
- A notice of late registration sent to you by your county auditor.
- A voter registered in the same precinct as you who can confirm your address and sign an oath.
You may also provide both a photo ID from the list below and a current bill with your current name and address in the precinct in which you should vote. Photo ID’s may be expired.
